What FEDAA Means

“FEDAA” in Farsi means “sacrifice”—beckoning us to a worthy cause.

In Memoriam

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Abdul Kayeum who devoted his life and sacrificed much to serve the people of Afghanistan.

Over the span of a 30-year career, he served as Rais-i-Darulmualemeen (Director of Teacher’s College), Governor of Helmand province, Minister of Communications, Minister of Interior, Minister of Education, and 2nd Deputy Prime Minister.

Dr. Kayeum was an unrelenting advocate for education, Afghan unity, and independence. The measure of his life can be found in his courage and vision, in his character and optimism, in his passion to pursue positive transformation, and in undying devotion to and love for his beloved Afghanistan. Rarely have such full measures of patriotism and generosity of spirit been embodied in one individual.
