Empowering Future Healers: Supporting Medical Education in Afghanistan
Our goal is to provide scholarships for students in Afghanistan to pursue medical education, addressing the critical shortage of healthcare professionals. While awarding medical degrees is an important objective, FEDAA remains primarily focused on undergraduate degrees to ensure the next generation can contribute to all sectors of society.
Health Statistics in Afghanistan
The average life expectancy is around 64 years, significantly lower than the global average. The country has fewer than 3 physicians per 10,000 people, a severe shortage of medical professionals. The maternal mortality rate is among the highest in the world, with 638 deaths per 100,000 live births. Additionally, 1 in 18 children dies before their fifth birthday.
Key Criteria for Partnering with a Medical School
There are half a dozen or so medical schools in Kabul. The three doctors on FEDAA’s Board played a key role in developing FEDAA’s partnership selection criteria that will be focused on: accreditation and curriculum quality, support services to help students succeed, clinical training opportunities, and a commitment to community health.
On the Horizon
By partnering with a reputable medical school, FEDAA will support the dreams of future doctors while also addressing the pressing need for a well-rounded, educated workforce. We are eager to announce an exciting new partnership with a Kabul-based medical school soon and with your support, look forward to assisting future doctors in Afghanistan pursue their medical education.
